Free Phone 0800 4488 297 ![]() Forest and Garden Timber Services was formed in 1979 as a sole trader based in Surrey, working mainly in the Guildford and Woking areas. Initially working as a sub contractor in forestry operations until 1981 when the direction changed to working in the private sector carrying out tree surgery works. The company slowly grew by the introduction of employed staff until the storm of 1987, which allowed further expansion to accommodate the addition of more staff, vehicles etc. After the inevitable lull in trade following the clear up, the company continued on a reduced but more even footing, but again changed direction by seeking out more work from the public sector. Our resources include 2 x 7.5 tonne tipping lorries one of which is fitted with a hi-ab type crane, a 3.5 tonne transit type tipper, a 12meter hydraulic lorry mounted platform (mewp), 2 tractors with flails, a 4wd dumper, a trailed woodchipper, a stump grinder, an aluminium work boat, our own secure yard with storage facilities and all necessary chainsaws, strimmers and hand tools etc. We operate 2 or 3 man gangs, all trained and qualified, as conditions require from a current workforce of six. Our staff are highly trained and certificated for all aspects of our work including in some cases chemical spraying. Each member of staff has attended a First Aid at Work course. Four have been tested and certificated to use the mewp and hi-ab, three are qualified to use chainsaws at height, all others being being qualified for aerial rescue. Two are certificated for backpack sprayers. We also have two members certificated for Loler testing and one is qualified to carry out bird nesting and bat surveys. We have two members trained as power boat operators and all others have completed a cold water awareness course making us probably the only tree surgeons in the surrey, hants and berkshire region trained and certificated to work in, on and nearby water. All appropriate P.P.E. is used at all times, e.g. Chainsaw use, to include full protection trousers, chainsaw boots and gloves, helmet with visor and ear defenders, personal first aid kit. Waste disposal is achieved by the following methods. Removal to a transfer station as required by client (S C C), chipping and stacking on site where appropriate (often possible in rural areas), burning on site (still legal and carried out by the environment agency), chipping and removal to our premises to be stacked until re-used for environmental enhancement projects, firewood, logs or composted. We can offer a proven 24hr, 365 day emergency service and guarantee to be anywhere within the borough within 1 hour of first call. Our sphere of operations is no longer resticted to the Guildford and Woking areas, but we regularly work in Hampshire and Berkshire and London as well as throughout Surrey Return to top |
